Words etched away in your memories forever: A tribute to Jagjit Singh

Hum Labo se keh na paaye
Unse Haale dil kabhi ..
Aur woh samjhe nahi yeh
Khamoshi kya cheez hai

Ishq kee jee
fir samajhiye...
Zindagi kya cheez hai ...

A romantic soul like me, never found it hard to express the deepest emotions of my heart since songs like this only made it easy for me to state the exact state of my mind. Each time i hear a song like this, I always thanked the writer as well as the singer for enhancing the beauty of the emotion to a bar that one would only yearn for more in the heart. Jagjit Singh was one such Maestro. And to wake up to the reality that he is no more is an irreplaceable loss. Personally or otherwise. Some people are not a part of your life by birth, but they become closer by virtue of their worth!

Noted Ghazal Singer Jagjit Singh passed away this morning, days after suffering a Brain Heamorrage and ailing for days together. Jagjit Singh was popularly known as the "Ghazal King". His strong husky voice, not only enhanced the depth of the lyrics of a song, they also added a soulful touch to them. Jagjit Singh, was also instrumental in bringing the Ghazal music in a big way into the Movie and Television Industry with his music albums and songs.

A versatile singer, Jagjit ji lent his voice to films, private albums as well as Atal Bihari Viajpayee's Samvedna. With his going away, the industry has lost a gem. His Dil Kahin Hosh Kahin a private album with Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle  is still fresh in my memory. Hoshwaalo ko Khabar kya is a must play on my iPod at all times.

We pray for his family and hope his soul finds peace. He will always live with us through his songs, his ghazals and the messages he left behind through his songs and renditions.

We at Rangmunch deeply mourn this demise. It is indeed a disturbing moment when we have to sit back and think that the sun will rise another day after this, without the presence of people you have grown up listening to know, and have unknowingly made a part of your life. Jagjit Singh is that and more and always will be.

This legendary singer will always be well-remembered, even though his voice slowly diminshes to be silent, his melodies will live on in our hearts. Asking God to give peace to his soul. Al.
