Circumstances force Brahma to make choices: Vishwajeet Pradhan

Brahamanand Jhaakar magnifies the screen with his persona, his dialect, his attitude and most importantly his confidence in executing what he perceives right. With his powerful portrayal as a man who does what comes to his mind, and lays down his own rules and principles, this is one man we all hate to love. Rangmunch.TV brings to you  an exclusive with Vishawajeet Pradhan aka Brahmanand Jhaakar of Maryada fame. As we spoke to Mr. Pradhan, we realized how different he is as an individual from the character he portrays. Humor is his second skin and knowledge and experience are his strength. Sometimes when you know what you are doing, especially being an actor, adds more essence to the role you play. Mr. Pradhan shares with us his insights on what makes Brahmanand click and his equation with the ladies of the Jhakaar household.

What makes Brahmanand the man he is and what justification does he have to give for his actions?

Brahmanand is a man like any other who believes in his point of view. If he sees that a situation is right from his perspective, he will go ahead with it even if rest of the world feels it to be wrong. Be it Hitler, Chandrashekhar Azaad or even Saddam Hussain, whatever they did was right according to them and they became heroes for their people while they were criticised by the opposition. Basically it boils down to one's point of view and his or her belief in the same. Brahmanand is just that man who believes that his thinking and actions are right .

We have seen Brahmanand as a corrupt man who uses his power to justify his misdeeds. How do you relate to him as a character?

Every man has a good and bad side to him. No one is perfect ."Log majboori mein imandaar bantey hai".(People become honest out of compulsion).Brahmanand has gone through life seeing various situations and reacting to them. Sometimes he has used his power to tackle a situation and then in the next he has also been honest about it. Yes, power is addictive and makes us do things we normally wont. Everyone has a Ram and Ravan in them. Somewhere Ram becomes powerful and somewhere Ravan. When people say, be practical, it means compromise with the truth. That is what I think Brahmanand is doing.

What place does Devyani hold in his life? Does he love her ?

Its like this , when two people who have been staying together as long as Brahmanand and Devyani  have, love which was initially there turns into habit ."Main Devyani ke liye ek aadat  hoon, waise he woh mere liye".We are not in love as shown in the today's perception of romance but merely a habit to each other. Now that Devyani is suddenly opposing everything that Brahmanand is doing, it is disturbing him a lot. He has always seen her as a caretaker and a homemaker who looks after everyone, but now she is finding her own place and fighting for her family. This is making Brahmanand uneasy. Devyani herself is feeling uncomfortable doing what she is doing. Its basically an association of a lifetime. He may look at other women since variety is the spice of life, but its Devyani he comes back to.

How different is it working in daily soap as compared to movies ? Have you ever felt that your creativity is being challenged due to the hectic and taxing work schedule on TV?

Well both lines have their plus and minus points.Big screen has more budgets , better equipments and more facilities but at the same time daily soaps have detailed character graphs which you dont get in Bollywood. The journey in films starts from point A and finishes at point B, where as in the soaps the journey from A to B has lots of twist and turns and every turn gives more variety to work on.I have never had to live a character for such a lengthy time period but am enjoying it .It can be taxing but you get to learn alot.In a film I would never get to play Brahmanand Jhakaar in so many shades.

Brahmanand, apart from being corrupt is also a womanizer. Having justified his penchant for corruption, how will you explain this weakness for women, especially Uttara at this point?

Its an inherent nature of man to want what you dont have.Brahmanand  is married but that doesnt stop him from being attracted to other women. Its probably the growing years that have made him the way he is.Uttara is young, vibrant and beautiful and somehow Devyani lacks in this department. So naturally he gets pulled towards her.It is not lust entirely .Its about attachment and knowing Uttara for a period of time now. Knowing Brahmanand, he never lets go of an oppurtunity ( says  laughingly )

How has it been working with Indrani Haldar who is a popular award winning actress from Bengal?

Its a pleasure working with such a great performer. She is a thorough professional and is very dedicated to her art. Actually I'm sorrounded with wonderful actors, be it Raqesh, Kamya or Indrani herself. So the journey has been enriching.

Substitues Or The True Heroes

Abhishek who plays the BODY DOUBLE for  Maan singh Khurana in a hit Star One show Geet-Hui Sabse Parayi
When the main lead is absent on the show due to health problems or is off on a holiday , then what does a Production House do ?  Well in such circumstances they appoint a person who can play the character but at a distance. His height , his mannerisms , his attitude gives the viewers a feel of the main lead always being present on the show. In the world of Television these people are called “Body Doubles”.
Rangmunch.TV today introduces you another face that also plays Maan Singh Khurana.  No we are not talking about a replacement here. Gurmeet is unwell, and hasnt been able to shoot for the last few days. The show however must go on, and Maan is still very much a part of the daily episodes. If you are wondering how this is possible, this is a good time for us to introduce you all to Abhishek, who plays Gurmeet's body double in his absence..On quizzing him about his role , his aspirations, his contribution to such a popular show , this is what he had to say…
“I enjoy playing Maan Singh Khurana.MSK has become very popular and is larger than life.My first time as the body double for MSK was when Geet got married the second time round. In reality Gurmeetji  was himself getting married, so I stepped in  his shoes and did the role. I have done many other scenes too where Gurmeetji has been away.Off late I have been also essaying small roles in the background of the Geet .It feels nice to know that you are contributing something vital and show is moving on.Gurmeet ji and Drashti both have helped me a lot in inacting a scene.Even with Dhrasti when the seen becomes a little uncomfortable, she completely relaxes me and help me in the shot.I would love to continue doing MSK till I can and do a lot more too. There is a sense of satisfaction that one is a part of such a pivotal character.”
It was a sheer pleasure getting to know Abhishek and the role he potrays . Today the  body  doubles  have become very popular  and  important to any show. The  show must go on even if the main leads are not present.Body doubles are definitely  the production houses  knight in shinning armour.

Rangmunch Diaries: Set-hopping Update – Day Six! On the sets of ‘Geet Hui Sabse Parayi’

                                      Director Sundeep Sharma

Day six for us began with mixed feelings. As we proceeded on our journey to the Geet set, deep down in our hearts we knew it wasn't going to be easy knowing that the leads Drashti Dhami and Gurmeet Chaudhary may not be available on the sets since they have been unwell for a while now.

We were pleasantly surprised to see Drashti Dhami who had come in to shoot for a few hours in spite of not having completely recovered from cold and fever. When we conveyed our concern on behalf of the numerous fans, she was visibly touched and said she is feeling much better. We gave her a bouquet along with a Get Well Soon card and wished her a speedy recovery.

We know for a fact that all of you are anxious to know how Gurmeet is doing. He is still unwell and recovering at home. Infact, the crew was getting ready to go to his house to shoot some close-up shot of his.  We handed over the get well soon card that we carried for Gurmeet to them, and they graciously agreed to pass it on to him.

Abhishek who plays Gurmeet's Body double in his absence.

We were touched and saddened at the same time to see the professionalism of these two actors who were giving it their all even during the times when they need to take ample rest to get their health back. We as viewers, feel humbled at their dedication and sincerity towards their work just so they can tirelessly entertain us. You know what they say – the show must go on!

We wish them both well from the bottom of our hearts and hope they get back to work hale and hearty soon.

It was our pleasure meeting Samir Sharma (Dev), Ranjeev Verma (Mamaji), Ahwaan Kumar (Lucky), and Abhishek, the person who plays the body double of Gurmeet. It was a delight interacting with Astha Malik, the Creative Head and Sandeep Sharma, the Director of the show. It was overwhelming to see all the other actors of the show pulling their weight and giving it their all in the absence of Gurmeet Chaudhary. As of now there is no confirmation as to when Gurmeet will be back to shoot on the sets.

You will soon find the detailed updates of the set visit on this very space. Stay tuned for more!

DIA AUR BAATI HUM, LEAD STAR MOBBED AT SIGNAL!

Rangmunch brings you the current update from Dia Aur Baati Hum team.It is said , that popularity comes with a price, but when that price is love and affection , one surely doesnt mind .

The lead of STAR Plus’ new show Dia Aur Baati Hum was recently mobbed by a passerby at a signal. The incident happened when Anas Rashid aka Sooraj was going from one shoot location to another along with his on-screen mother Bhabhoe aka Neelu.

The two were in their character costumes and were waiting for the signal when suddenly a woman came up to Neelu and started yelling that Neelu should listen to her son and not shout so much at him. Neelu and Anas were taken aback and later realized that she was talking about the role that she plays in their brand new show. The situation became worse when other passersby also stopped to see why the woman was yelling.

In spite of this Anas and Neelu were very happy that they have been able to create a mark in people’s memory. In fact Anas also said, ‘I am very happy that it has been only three weeks and people actually remember us and our work has been able to create a mark in everybody’s mind. This is something that an actor wants from his work -Recognition.

Catch Anas and Neelu’s unique mother-son relationship on STAR plus’ brand new show Dia aur Baati Hum from Monday to Friday at 9pm!

Rangmunch Diaries: Set-hopping Update – Day Five! On the sets of ‘Maryada’

Our day on the sets of ‘Maryada’ today was overwhelming. Everything about it left us with a sense of perfection just as what we see on-screen. From the actors involved in the shot to the technicians canning it, we could feel their dedication and sincerity towards their craft and the show.

We consider ourselves lucky to have met almost all the cast of the show except for Director Iqbaal Rizvi who promised to meet us on a later date. Indrani Haldar, who plays Devyani in the show, is one of the most renowned actors of the Bengali Television and film Industry and has also won the national award for her movie Dahon. We found her to be simple, sweet and extremely down to earth. We thoroughly enjoyed listening to her reminisce about the good old days in the industry. She shares her room with her closest friend on the set Vindya Tiwari( Vidya).

                                                                              Vindya Tiwari talking away

We were fortunate to spend time with veteran actor Arun Bali (dadaji) who very sweetly ordered coffee for us when he got to know that we have been around for a long time interviewing everyone on the sets. We loved meeting Riddhi and Raqesh too who were very sweet and welcoming! They chatted with us as if they had always known us and wished us all the very best with Rangmunch!

Most of you will be surprised to know that Vishwajeet Pradhan, who plays Brahmanand, is actually a very jovial man in real life. Once when we told him that we were running around to get things done, he joked, “aap jogging shoes pehen ke agar aa jaati toh aur jaldi aa jaati”. In another instance, when a technician came asking for the mike he gave him his mobile charger and said, “tum yeh le jao main is mike se apna phone charge kar loonga”. We were pleasantly surprised to see the lighter side of him, which is diametrically opposite to the character he plays on-screen.

We also met up with Daksh who plays the intense Gaurav. He came across as an extremly honest, straight forward and hard working self made man. He took us through his journey in the industry and we got to know some interesting facts about him that we will be sharing with you soon.

Scenes shot for the forthcoming track:

Mr. Niranjan with Cameraman Mr. Anil Bhandari was directing the following scenesThe first scene had the entire family except Brahma seated around the dinner table reminiscing how Brahma brings down the entire house when he falls ill. The family is shown to be preparing to welcome Vidya back from the hospital.

The second scene was that of the entire family trying to cheer vidya. Even Cheenu was in the same house. The upcoming episodes will see Vidya taking a stand on what she wants to do with her life post this fatal accident. That she had tried to kill herself already once is something we all know, but this time, she actually took a bullet for her husband knowing fully well, that his heart belongs elsewhere. Will she stick by the family that loves her like their own child or will she now go out to explore her own life?

The most important thing that caught our attention was the discipline and the professionalism with which the cast and crew were going about their work. At first, the actors sat and rehearsed together, and after a rehearsal session or two, they all gave their scenes in less than two takes. They were all very involved with their work as long as the shot was on, but once the camera was switched off they all got into their masti mood.

This interesting day wouldn’t have been possible if it were not for Manjari, Pooja and Waseem Sabeer who were instrumental in arranging our set-visit. It felt wonderful to know that all the actors of show still fondly remembered Waseem Sabeer, the director who set up the show, but is currently working on Dharampatni on Imagine TV.

Watch this space for more updates on the cast and crew of ‘Maryada’.
