Fida's Corner: His Wife, Mrs. Khurana!!! (Chapter 20)

Chapter 20

**AUTHOR’S NOTE- THIS CHAPTER IS VERY DEV-CENTRIC; PLEASE DON’T BE PUT OFF BY THIS.  BELIEVE ME, I FIND THE ONSCREEN GEET’S ATTITUDE TO DEV ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE, AND YET FORGIVENESS IS DIVINE.  THIS CHAPTER IS MY ATTEMPT TO EXPLAIN (to myself and others) HOW GEET MIGHT HAVE FORGIVEN DEV**

He woke at dawn as he felt something tugging on his vest.  It took him a moment to process what he was seeing- in her sleep, Geet had wrapped her hand into the cloth of his vest, as if to hold onto him, as if the hours of waiting for him to come to bed so that she could finally sleep had made her subconscious want to ensure that he wouldn’t leave her alone again.

He let himself enjoy the moment, savouring the visual reassurance that she needed him.  He lay there as dawn turned into daybreak, then daybreak turned into morning, just watching her sleep.

Moments before her alarm sounded, she started to rouse, a gentle snuffle into her pillow almost making him laugh.  He gently prised her fingers loose; as much as he wanted to make her aware of her love for him, he didn’t want to put her on the defensive from the outset.  He switched the alarm off, planning to wake her gently himself, when there was a quiet knock at the door.

He checked his watch; it was six o’clock in the morning.  The thought entered his mind that something had happened to his grandmother; surely, there was no other reason for anyone to disturb them this early on a Saturday morning.

Easing himself out of bed so as not to disturb Geet before he had to, he strode over to the door and opened it, expecting to see Nakul.

Dev stood there instead, looking as if he hadn’t slept a wink for days.  He almost slammed the door in Dev’s face then stopped himself; the bang would wake Geet.  Instead, he stepped out of the room and closed the door behind him.

He stood with his back to his brother for a moment, then took a deep breath and turned.  It had been weeks since he had talked to Dev, even longer since he had allowed himself to be alone with him.  Every time he looked at his brother, all he could think about was how he had failed; his failure as a brother, his failure as a role model, his failure as head of his family, his failure to guide the brother he loved along the right path.  He knew it was perhaps a self-centred way to look at things, but somehow he couldn’t help but think that if he had guided Dev better, perhaps Dev would never have been weak enough to follow his basest impulses.  His guilt had mixed with anger, coalescing into a ball of rage that sat heavy in his gut every time he laid eyes on his brother.

The Dev standing in front of him now was a pale shadow of the man he remembered; it had been so long since he really looked at Dev that he was shocked by the change in the other man’s appearance.  Dev looked haunted, the dark shadows under his eyes emphasising his troubled look.

“Kya hua Dev, kya Dadi ko kuch hua?” “What’s wrong Dev, has something happened to Dadi?”

“Bro, I need to talk to you, please.  Bro, please I need your help.”

Something inside him couldn’t help but respond to his baby brother’s plea for help.  It was almost as if he was split in two, and each half had an opposing response to his brother’s words; Geet’s husband revelled in Dev’s broken state, but Dev’s elder brother wanted to solve every problem the way he always had in the past.

He glanced back at the closed door to the bedroom, unwilling to have Geet come face to face with Dev so early in the morning.  Coming to a decision, he turned and said “Chalo Dev, let’s go to my study”, then turned to lead the way downstairs.

Once in the study, he turned to face his brother and asked “Batao Dev, kya baat hai”  “Tell me what the problem is Dev”

Dev stood in front of his elder brother, wondering how to begin.  After a moment of silence, he turned away, unable to face the disgust he knew his next words would provoke.

“Aap ko pata hai na, maine Geet ko kaise dhoka diya tha” “You know, don’t you, about the way I deceived Geet?”

The man standing behind him didn’t react verbally, but Dev could feel the temperature in the room drop.

“Bro, maine kabhi aap se maafi maangne ki ghalti nahin ki hai, kyunki maine jo kiya, woh maafi ke qaabil nahin hai.  Aap ke dil mein jo mere liye nafrat hai, jo kiraiyyat hai woh bilkul theek hai.  Jitni nafrat aap mujhse karte hain, usse kaheen zyaada nafrat main khud se karta hoon.”

“Bro, I’ve never made the mistake of asking you to forgive me, because there is no forgiveness for what I’ve done.  The hate that you have in your heart for me, that disgust, I deserve nothing less.  As much as you hate me, I hate myself far more”

He turned back, as if realising he needed to face his brother’s hatred.

“Bro, I’m not asking for forgiveness now.  I’m asking you to talk to Dadi for me.  I need you to ask her to stop forcing me into contact with Priya Paatil.”

He stopped and took a deep breath, then said “Bro, Priya bahut acchi hai, main usski bahut parwa karta hoon.  Main usse bahut pehle se jaanta hoon, meri usske pati se dosti thi.  She deserves better than me Bro, she’s better off alone rather than married to me.”

“Bro, Priya is a wonderful woman, a woman I care about very much.  I’ve known her for a long time, I was a friend of her husband. She deserves better that me Bro, she’s better off alone rather than married to me”

Before his brother could say anything, Dev turned away again, then said “Bro, I’m trying to stay away from her, I’m trying to do what’s right for once and leave her alone.  But Dadi keeps throwing us together.  I’ve tried to talk to her, I’ve tried to explain that I don’t want to get married again, but she won’t listen to me.  She’s pushed me to the point where I even ended up begging Geet for help”

The man who sat like a statue behind his desk finally spoke, his wife’s name breaking through the wall he had erected to stop himself from saying all the things he wanted to.

“Geet?  Geet ko beech mein laane ki kya zaroorat thi?” “Geet?  Why did you get Geet involved in this?”

“Bro, maine socha ke main agar Priya ko sab sach sach batadoonga to woh khud ba khud mujhse milna chod degi, to maine kuch din pehle usse sab bata diya.  Geet ke saath maine kya kiya, Meera ka dil maine kaise dukhaya, Naintara ke saath jo mera rishta tha, maine Priya ko sab batadiya.”

“Bro, I thought that if I tell Priya the whole truth then she’ll draw her own conclusions and stop meeting me, so a few weeks ago I told her everything.  What I did to Geet, how I hurt Meera, everything about my relationship with Naintara, I told Priya everything.”

He sighed then sat in the chair in front of him, burying his head in his hands.

“I ended up asking Geet to talk to her, to tell her everything”

“Aur Geet ne unse baat karli?  Unko batadiya ke tum badalgaye?” “And Geet talked to her? Told her that you’d changed?”

“Mujhe ye to nahin pata ke Geet ne usse kya baat ki, magar Geet se baat karne ke baad Priya phirbhi yahan aati rahi, mujhse milti rahi.”

“I don’t know what Geet said to her, but Priya kept coming here even after she’d talked to Geet, she kept meeting me.”

“Tum unse yeh kyun nahin kehdete ke tum unse nahin milna chahte.  Agar woh aisi hain jaisi tum kehrahe ho, then she’s not the type to chase after someone who isn’t interested”

“Why don’t you tell her that you don’t want to see her?  If she’s the type of person you say she is, then she’s not going to chase after someone who isn’t interested”

Dev looked up, his face wretched as he met his brother’s eyes.

“Oh.  You can’t make yourself do that.” He let out a bitter laugh “Well, women were always your biggest weakness”

“Bro, main Dadi ki qasam khaata hoon, main jaanta hoon ke main iss layaq nahin hoon ke kissi se shaadi karoon, kissi ka pati banoon.  Maine bahut koshish ki hai ke main usse door rahoon.  Magar main usse bahut chahta hoon.  Agar aap ne meri madad nahin ki, to main kamzor padhjaoonga.  Kal Dadi phir kehrahi theen ke woh mujhe khush dekhna chahti hain aur ek lamhe ke liye maine socha ke kyun na aisa karoon, kyun na usse shaadi karloon.  Ek lamhe ke liye socha ke main usse khush rakhsakoonga, usski beti ko baap ka pyaar doonga.”

“Bro, I swear on Dadi’s life, I know that I don’t deserve to marry anyone, that I’m not good enough to be anyone’s husband.  I’ve tried so hard to stay away from her.  But I care for her very much.  If you don’t help me, then someday I’ll weaken.  Yesterday Dadi started talking about how much she wants to see me happy, and for just a moment I thought ‘why not? Why shouldn’t I marry Priya’.  For just a moment I thought to myself  ‘I’ll be able to keep her happy, I’ll give her daughter all the love a father can’.”

He stood up and started walking round the room “Baap ka pyaar; kaisa baap jissne kissi aur ki beti ki zindagi barbaad ki thi?”  “A father’s love; what kind of father ruins another man’s daughter?”

Dev stopped and faced his brother again, his face sober “Bro, Dadi ne mujhe qasam di thi ke main iss ghar ko chodke nahin jaaoonga, and because her doctor told me that she shouldn’t be subjected to any stress, I have honoured my promise.  But if she keeps pushing me towards Priya, I know I’ll have to leave and never come back and I don’t want to do that to either of them ”

“Bro, Dadi made me swear that I wouldn’t leave this house, and because her doctor told me that she shouldn’t be subjected to any stress, I have honoured my promise.  But if she keeps pushing me towards Priya, I know I’ll have to leave and never come back and I don’t want to do that to either of them”

Laughing bitterly, he said “To be honest, my biggest worry is that I wouldn’t have the strength to do that; part of me wants Priya so much that I worry that I’ll just give in and give Dadi what she wants and that wouldn’t be fair to Priya.  So I need you to ask Dadi to back off, please.”

Walking towards the door, Dev opened it then stood for a moment, his back to his brother.

“Maafi ke qaabil to nahin hoon, maafi maangne ki himmat bhi nahin hai.  But someday I’ll convince you that I am sorry, more sorry than you can possibly imagine.  And someday I’ll prove to you that I’ve changed, I promise you.”

“I don’t deserve forgiveness, I don’t even have the courage to ask for your forgiveness. But someday I’ll convince you that I am sorry, more sorry than you can possibly imagine.  And someday I’ll prove to you that I’ve changed, I promise you.”

He walked out, leaving his brother to think about what he had just said.

Rage threatened to overwhelm the man he left sitting in that quiet study; the thought that Dev could dare to talk about loving someone was nauseating.  How dare he talk about love or caring for a woman?  He’d destroyed Geet, shattered an innocent girl with talk of love and adoration, ruined her in a moment of lust and carelessness.  Dev had broken vows of fidelity and loyalty and trampled on the heart of the woman he was married to; Naintara’s homicidal rage was almost understandable, though she had blamed the wrong person.

He sat there, lost in thoughts, until he heard the door open again; looking up he saw his wife standing there in a plain salwar qameez.  She looked so young with her face bare of makeup, as if she had never been touched by sadness or despair; the thought crossed his mind that she must have looked similar to this when Dev first saw her.

Seeing her like that made him want to go back to the time of that first meeting and kill Dev before he could lay a hand on her, then the thought suddenly struck him that if Dev hadn’t ruined Geet’s life, he might never have met her.  Indeed, she might even now have been married to someone else, living in Punjab or Canada.

A bolt of pain shot through him at the thought that he owed his current happiness to Dev’s wrongdoing, before he realised how wrong that thought was.  He knew that he and Geet would have come together no matter what, that they were destined to be together. If Dev’s actions hadn’t led to their meeting, then something else would have, but he and Geet were always meant to be.

With thoughts of what Dev had done to her running through his mind, he couldn’t stop himself from asking.

“Tum Dev ko apne ghar mein kaise bardaasht karleti ho?” “How can you bear to have Dev in your house?”

She paled, then put her hand out to hold on to the doorframe.

Cursing himself, he stood and went to her side, but before he reached her she straightened and said “Main soch rahi thi ke aap mujhse kab poochenge”  “I was wondering when you were going to ask me”

He saw her take a deep breath before saying “Chaliye, behtar hai aap ne ab poochliya.  Iss se pehle ke hum aage badhein, purani baaton ko beech mein se hatadena hi accha hai”

“Well, I suppose it’s better that you asked me now.  Before we go any further, it’s probably best that we deal with all the lingering questions between us”

My Journey Back Stage – A Personal Diary!!

As human beings, we always find the grass to be greener on the other side. However, it is when we reach the other side that we realize, it’s not always so. It is the same with the World of Glamour and Showbiz.
During my teens when watching a movie or a serial, I would envy the actors and the people working in the entertainment industry. You name it & they possessed it – be it fame, money, luxury or even fans. I always wondered how it feels to be a celebrity & what goes into becoming one.

After completing my academics, I got into the rat race of the Corporate World & all these teenage thoughts got buried with time. But what we usually consider as an “accident” actually turns out to be “providence.” So when I took a break from work after 9 years, I got hooked to a Hindi soap Geet Hui Sabse Parayi, after which life took a complete 360 degree turn. It not only helped me explore & re-invent myself but also resurfaced those teenage thoughts, which had been buried with daily drudgeries.

However, my association with Rangmunch.TV gave me the opportunity to observe and explore the entertainment industry very closely. Thank you Niharika!

As much as I am enthralled with this new journey of mine, I have also come to terms with some thought provoking and hard-hitting facts.
As we went Set hoping, I realized that one has to travel more than an hour on a daily basis to reach the Sets & the Bombay traffic makes it worse. The lavish sets cannot be built within the city due to space constraints & hence we find almost all of them on the outskirts of the city.

It’s really amazing that there are so many families whose livelihood depends on a show but at the same time its quite scary because a premature closure of a show results in people losing their jobs. Everyone has their work chalked out at the start of the day & hopes that it moves along the set plan.

The amount of hard work & effort that goes into putting up a 22 minute episode is unbelievable. Every episode might have 5 to 6 scenes, but every scene has its own story to say in terms of preparation. There is a person who takes care of the actor’s clothes & accessories scene wise. There are others who take care of setting up the props as per the scene’s requirement. There are no air conditions on the sets where the scenes are shot which makes it extremely difficult for the cast & crew to bear the heat & those heavy duty yellow lights makes it worse. They are like the blazing sun that shines on the faces of the actors & ruins their make up time & again.

It’s a team work & everyone tries really hard to play their bit of the role with utmost perfection. Some of the people who stay behind the camera & work do not even get a mention. For eg: the Make-up Dada who plays an integral part in making an actor look picture perfect & flawless, so much so that we all want to look & feel like them. However, when an actor does not look good on screen we attribute it to bad make up or hair do but on the contrary if they look good we immediately say that they are blessed with beauty & charm. The one man, who is the most sort after on the sets after the Make-up dada, is the Spot Dada, who serves beverages to the entire team.

In between scenes, when actors get to rest or rehearse their lines, there is one MAN who is continuously seen working. He is none other than our Director Saab. He briefs the team about how a scene will be shot, including the placement of camera angles and lights. He not only handles the main actors but also takes care of the junior artists. He conceives & interprets the emotions of every character be it male or female which is a challenge in itself.

Post 6pm one can see the tension build up as the telecast time draws near.

As far as the actors go, irrespective of what their actual mood may be, they have to immerse themselves in the mood of the sequence. When doing an emotional scene they really have to prepare themselves. The actors make an effort and at times think of their own life experiences to connect with the scene and give way to real emotions on screen. Amidst all this, if a fan walks into the set, they are equally warm and cordial with them & try to spend time inspite of their hectic schedule. The actors’ clothes are designed as per the sequence; hence even in the hottest of days, you might see them in a three-piece suit while in winters they may have to wear sleeveless.

There is no weekend or weekday for them. The only word that gets a mention is “PER DAY.”

But even after putting up all this “hard work,” if the episode doesn’t appeal to us, the Janta Janardhan, then we consider them to be “hardly working.” The remote of their fate lies in our hands & we decide it on a daily basis in the form of TRPs. In the Corporate World we have an annual appraisal but people working in this industry are appraised on a daily basis & as the saying goes “jo bikta hai wohi tik ta hai”.

But all the criticisms from the viewers do not dampen their creative spirit but motivates them to strive for perfection as they continue to entertain us 24*7.

My journey so far has made me realize that there are no free lunches in this world & everything comes with a price, including Stardom.

Balika Vadhu: Fate and its Fatality!!!!

So far, we have seen that inspite of all insecurities, Gouri has finally come to terms with her relationship and marriage with Jagat and they both have started to look forward to their life together. Meanwhile Anandi with the help of her family continues to stand by what she believes is right and creating awareness among the villagers.

Even though Anandi has moved ahead in life, she has not been able to erase the memories of her married life with Jagiya. She still misses Jagiya and a part of her is lonely without him. With Jagiya abandoning her, every dream that she had weaved towards having a future together has shattered.

In the latest episode, we saw that Gouri faints after hearing the truth about Anandi rendering financial help to Jagat. However, the Doctor who comes to check Gouri reveals about her pregnancy.

To Anandi, Jagiya was much more than a husband; he was her childhood friend, her lover, her hope, her pride, her strength, precisely her world revolved around him. Their separation made her incomplete and left her with a hollowness that is not easy to fill in. Nonetheless, her deep rooted desire to save the villagers from exploitation and evil practices in the name of religion and age old rituals, gave her new hope and a reason to live.

Although she has accepted the fact that Jagiya loves Gouri and not her, she has not been able to tear away herself from the 16 years of marital life with him. Anandi loves Jagiya selflessly; she has no expectations from him. It takes a very strong will power and determination to accept such truths in life, and yet maintain the love and respect for that person.

However, destiny seems to be cruel to her repeatedly. It is the irony of life that the disclosure of Gouri’s pregnancy had to happen in Anandi’s presence.

Knowing that the marriage is illegal in the eyes of law; will Gouri still go ahead with her motherhood? Will Jagat’s family eventually accept Gouri as their daughter-in-law? Will Gouri ever understand Anandi and her selfless love for Jagiya? Will Jagiya ever realize the pain he has inflicted on Anandi for the rest of her life?

In order to know how the story unfolds, keep watching Balika Vadhu, Monday to Friday at 8pm only on Colors.

Must Watch: Navya!!!

After all the turmoil, both Anant and Navya’s family have agreed to their wedding. While Navya and Anant are happy with this news, Navya’s father looks worried as he can sense something unpleasant.

In yesterday’s episode, Navya’s father tries to understand and gauge the intentions of Anant’s family, which leaves him further tensed as he is concerned about his daughter’s future in the Vajpayee household. Navya’s father has observed Anant’s family closely and hence he is in two minds, whether his daughter will be able to cope with the conservative ways of the Vajpayee Family.

As per the precap, Navya’s father will finally put the ball in Navya’s court and ask her what she thinks of this alliance. In a marriage, the alliance is not just between a boy and a girl but it is also between two families and in this case, there is a vast difference not only in their status but also in the lifestyle of both the families.

So what will Navya eventually decide? Will Anant get to know the truth as to why his family agreed to his marriage with Navya?

In order to know how the story unfolds, watch Navya today at 8pm only on Star Plus.

In my mind only Abigail can play Sia in Humse Hai Liife: Hitesh Kewalya!

Well, have you ever thought where a story evolves? In the mind of a writer. Where does it take shape? In his imagination. Where do you finally see it? On the screen! This journey from a creative mind to a visual medium is a story in itself and an interesting one too.

Rangmunch.TV introduces you to Hitesh Kewalya, who writes the story, screenplay and dialogues for Humse Hai Liife along with his sister Roopal Kewalya, on Channel V, and also adds the Nanda Kisor and Hallo Hi Bye Bye touches to Bua ji and Mamiji in Is Pyar ko Kyaa Naam doon through his dialogues. Talking to Hitesh, only makes you respect the Writer Fraternity even more as a clan, that silently work in the background, knowing fully well, that the name in those credits may just scroll away while the characters and stories they create, would go on to live in the hearts of the audiences forever.

Rangmunch Team had the priviledge of talking with Hitesh, who revealed some fascinating facts about his journey with Humse Hai Liife, the High School Drama on Channel V ….right from its conceptualization to the way it’s being portrayed onscreen!!

The Inception...

One fine day I got a call from Nissar (Parvez-Producer) as they had been toying with the idea of making a youth based show. When I came on board, at the onset it was very clear in our minds that we wanted to present a real story and not just a fluffy teenage romance to the audience.

What we had initially conceived was something more edgy and dark than what we are seeing right now. I happened to see a documentary in a film festival called the Boxing Ladies (by Anusha Nandakumar, SRFTI). Its a film about three sisters who undergo training to become boxers. It was not about the boxing, but the struggle the movie portrayed that gripped my attention. I then thought, our story needs to have a balance between both youth issues- the struggle of a boxer as well as her personal life. That’s how it all started. I began working on the initial story, gave the girl a past and then all of us jammed in and took it forward.

The Characterisation of Sia, the Protagonist!
….When writing a story, the biggest challenge is to create the protagonist. The protagonist of your show is someone who portrays certain values and virtues that reflect the kind of show you want to make. It is extremely important that the viewers relate and connect to him or her. I want every small town girl to look at Sia and identify with her. I want every girl to relate with Sia emotionally or otherwise. Therefore, etching out every aspect of a Character then becomes a mammoth task. It is like an ever-evolving process. Sia has to react differently in each situation. We also have to keep in mind that there is going to be a scenario where the girl who is so focused towards her passion and goal, will perhaps fall in love as well, and when that happens, how would she react then? Since the story revolves around Sia, hence in my opinion, she is the toughest one to pen down.

Aspects of Story telling...
Once your story is chalked out and your characters are relatable, everything else just falls in place. You don’t have to worry or bother about what others are doing. When telling a story, as a Writer, Director or a Producer one has to remember that the audiences are watching it because they connect and identify with your story. As long as we are true to our characters, and the story is engaging, we know a show will find its audience and people will watch it. Unveiling of story is like an onion. You peel off one layer and there is another one beneath it. If you can maintain the level of curiosity among the viewers, they will keep coming back to watch the show. You can’t keep comparing yourself to others or for that matter start following what they do. That’s not an ideal way to work on a story, as that way you are forcing things in a manner that is not organic to the entire set up.

Cliche Cliché Cliché …

Clichés always work on Television, but they should be carried out with an element of unpredictability attached to them. As a case study, in the first scene Gautam, Sia’s brother is shown running with a pair boxing gloves. Till the time he runs and comes, you know he is going towards Sia, but just when you think he will give it to her and there is going to be a regular brother and sister emotional scene, Sia slaps him. Now that thappad (slap) was the element of unpredictability, which the audiences did not anticipate. Therefore, we try to play around clichés but tweak it wherever necessary, so that there is an element of surprise and freshness in the way its presented.
Hero.... as in a Fiction!!

…..In any story-the word Hero means a person who is strong. Even if you look at history, a Hero is someone who touches death, over comes obstacles, and reaches the roof. Touching death is a part of his weakness, and the transformation that happens from weak to strong is what goes into making a Hero. You can even take an instance from our  day to day life - for me, beating traffic and reaching a place on time makes me a Hero too (laughs). The protagonist is however, different from a Hero. Here in Humse Hai Life, Vishal could be the protagonist- but then there always has to be a Hero in a story!

When Sia met Abigail ...

….I think I am still in the process of making the two meet. I have made certain observations about Abigail after having interacted with her and watched her perform from close quarters. Somewhere it becomes very important to marry the two; the character and the girl portraying it. Right now in my head only Abigail can play Sia. If it was someone else, then we would have had a different Sia. While writing scenes for Sia, I always keep Abigail, the person in mind. Since I know how Abigail speaks in real life, it becomes easier for me to incorporate it in my writing, as I know how she would perform in a particular scene. There are certain things that Abigail does, and if it works for us, then Sia does it too. Adding layers to a performer and a character is an evolving process. It’s like an orchestra. There might be a tabla, harmonium, a violin, but how much of each needs to be played and when is what brings in the harmony.

After a point in time, the audience become very particular about what they want to see of a character. If you do not show character consistency, then audiences start alienating themselves from what they are watching. Hence, we have to be alert at all times when we are projecting a character in a certain way.

Imagination Vs. Reflection….I wouldn’t be in my right mind if I thought what I wrote would exactly get translated on screen to the T. It’s not a cake recipe. Even cakes don’t turn out the same every time even though we follow the same recipe. A story is a Vision. Especially in Television or any creative medium, you just add your bit and pass it on. There is always going to be a value addition at every stage. No one person drives the entire scene. Everyone working on a show is looking at it from his or her perspective. The Writer, the Director, the Producer, and even the Channel at times comes back with their feedback. When you work on a story over a period of time, you eventually end up developing a vision that everyone agrees upon.

As a writer, when I first thought of this story, as i had told you earlier, it was very dark in nature, but eventually changes happened. I knew at the back of my mind, that the story may not be the way I had actually conceived it. As you meet different people and discuss things, a concept develops and takes its own shape. There is no hard and fast rule that one person sets the vision and the rest merely follows it. It doesn’t happen that way and it shouldn’t either.

For instance, we have decided on showing an elephant in our story. Now, whether we want to show a white elephant, a fat one, or a big one or some other, is something that all of us have to agree upon. Amalgamation of ideas always brings about a better product. I consider myself lucky to be working with 4Lions as they always give me an opportunity to share my thoughts and views. However, after all our brainstorming and discussions we always manage to reach a common ground at the end of the day. There have been instances when I have wanted to make some changes at the last moment, and have mailed them as late as the morning of the shoot and they have made those additions in the shoots because they agree it would fit better with the story...

The Art of Writing...
….I don’t think Television or film scripts need flowery or poetic language at all times. I follow a very normal way of writing. Like for example, if I write about a beautiful morning, there could be many perceptions to a beautiful morning. Whose beautiful morning is it? Is it being shot in a chawl or elsewhere?
So I need to remember the character, the set up and the story while penning down my thoughts. If I end up writing something that is beautiful to read, but difficult for a Director to execute, then my writing would be of no use.

Humse Hai Liife ….The story!!!

...Humse Hai Liife is a story about what ultimately drives you towards your passion. This is a tale of Sia’s struggle. We may not show how she is going to go and win the Olympics, but Sia wants to be a boxer and this story tells you how she uses every opportunity to fulfill her dreams in a place where she perhaps has things working against her at all times. Her success and survival forms the crux of the story.

We are also trying to establish a character that is diametrically opposite to Sia; Pooj, who shares the room with Sia. Despite hailing from similar backgrounds both Sia and Pooj think differently. While Sia uses her scholarship at Elite to pursue her dreams to be a boxer, Pooj takes this as an opportunity to mould herself and become a part of the world and society she has moved into. She wants to befriend a bunch of people who she thinks are cool in order to find acceptance. With Pooj, we are trying to subtly show you the other side of human psyche.

The story is set in a school wherein you can bring in various angles and aspects. It can become a zone where you could just be having fun. But our idea is also to give a message while telling the story, not only to the youth, but also to  parents who watch the show and relate to every character as they might be seeing their own child in one of the kids at Elite. Every character has its own story and acts in a particular way with the other for a certain reason. There is so much to explore that at times we are equally anxious for the story to unfold. You will also see, various other angles getting revealed as the story progresses.

We know, we are making a show, which would eventually cater to a wide range of audience, not just youngsters. We want every person who watches the show, to see it because a part of them connects with the story. Hopefully, we should be able to achieve that in the days to come.
