Balika Vadhu: A Friend or A Foe!

Recently in Balika Vadhu we have seen the entry of a new character by the name Shravan.

Shravan is young, educated, and honest. On Anandi’s request, Vasant agrees to hire Shravan for his godown work as he was in need of a job. In a short span, he has become friends with Anandi even though the villagers are not too happy seeing them together.

Lately we witnessed that Anandi and rest of the family members were shocked to discover that the statue of Devi Ma was missing from their Haveli. Everyone was worried as to who could possibly break into their house and rob the idol.

However, Anandi gets a que from one of her student whose mother unknowingly had found the veil of Devi Ma near a close by riverbank. Anandi, along with that woman and her daughter rushes to the referred spot. Apparently, Shravan who was having a bath in the same river, on hearing about the veil being found there, also helps Anandi in her search mission. He pleasantly surprises Anandi by retrieving the Murti from under water and carries it back home.

While all were happy to get the Statue of Devi Ma back, thanked Shravan for his help, and applauded his honesty, Sumitra on the contrary seem to be worried. Even though she was happy that they found the statue, but she was unable to ignore the fact that someone had robbed it from their house and considered it to be a bad omen.

However, the latest promo suggests that Anandi will soon go missing.

So who can possibly abduct her? Is it a mere coincidence or are these chain of events related? Who is Shravan? Is there more to his character than what meets the eye? In Dadisa’s absence, will his entry in the household turn out to be fatal? Will Shravan be the FRIEND who will bring sunshine in Anandi’s life or turn out to be a FOE who will further push her into darkness?

I have always celebrated Diwali with my family, but due to my hectic shooting schedule this year, I wont be visiting home.I am going to miss my family a lot.Since I will be getting the day off, I'll utilise that to my fullest by spending time with my friends and decorating  my place.

An Institution in Herself - Surekha Sikri!

Surekha Sikri, an alumni from National School of Drama and two times National Award Winner,  has carved a niche for herself both on Television and Silver Screen with powerful roles and impactful acting.

With her brilliant portrayal of characters in films like Tamas, Mammo, Zubeida, Sardari Begum, she has time and again proved that she is not only VERSATILE but is a BORN actor. Her role in Banegi Apni Baat on Zee TV is fondly remembered by audiences even today.

Last three years her character as Dadisa in Balika Vadhu has become extremely popular and a household name. When we met Anandi’s Dadisa aka Surekhaji on the sets of Balika Vadhu, we were awestruck with her humble and down to earth attitude. Believe it or not, its just not us who are in awe of her, but every co-star of Balika Vadhu including the Director himself is completely smitten by Surekha Sikri, the Actor.

Rangmunch.TV brings to you some of the comments straight from the cast and crew of Balika Vadhu.

Siddharth Sengupta (Director): “The first time I was shooting with Surekhaji, I was very apprehensive. She is a University of Acting. Sometimes without uttering a single dialogue, just her mere presence and the way she looks, enhances the entire scene. She gives acting tips to her co-actors.

I have worked for nearly 15 years in this industry and with almost 5000 actors, most of them very good actors. I have even worked with Seema Biswas but she has been the best so far. There is a difference between dedication and devotion. She is devoted to acting. She does her homework. I have not seen this kind of homework being done by anyone. You take all the actors on one side and keep Surekha Sekhri on the other side, that is the equation. I have not worked with anyone like Surekhaji. What she does on screen is magic. You have to explain what the scene is and then after ten minutes, she comes to perform and you see magic on screen.

Balika Vadhu wouldn’t be the same without Surekhaji. It is an honor to work with her. She is somebody you can learn from.”

Anup Soni (Bhairav Singh): “Surekhaji is too senior to me. So when I and Satyajit joined National School of Drama Delhi, we did hear about her. But this is the first time I am working with her, and I can vouch that one can see a mark difference in the way she performs vis-a-vis those in other shows. Its actors like Surekhaji who have given variety to audience in terms of acting and have made them realise that what they have been watching on other shows is not the ultimate acting. Also her presence has enhanced the performances of all the new comers who have joined this show. I strongly believe that when you are in the company of brilliant actors, you will always perform good, provided you are eager to learn and grow.”

Shashank Vyas (Jagiya): “To be honest I was not happy when I got selected to play the lead role in Balika Vadhu. I was extremely nervous since it was already a very popular show and was worried as to how I would perform before such Veteran actors who are former students of National School of Drama. I still remember, when I came to the set, the first person I met was Surekhaji. I touched her feet and asked for her blessings and she very humbly said “ok do it, all the best. Set pe miltey hai (will meet on the set).”

This place is nothing less than an academy for me where I get to learn the nuances of acting and emoting on a daily basis, which further helps me to be a better actor. I really feel blessed to get Balika Vadhu at such an early stage of my career.”

Pratyusha Banerjee (Anandi): “Surekhaji is a sweetheart. She has mood swings but is the best person to work with. When doing scenes with her I have to ensure that I give it my best inorder to match up to her calibre and to get noticed.”

Neha Marda (Gehna): “It was a privilege to share the screen with Surekhaji. Even if the scene is not hers, she always walks away with the cake and the cherry at all times with her mere presence. Even without saying a single dialogue, and with expressions alone she does miracle. I really feel blessed for getting an opportunity to do Balika Vadhu and I would like to thank Surekhaji for being so supportive and positive while doing the scenes. Its been an amazing journey so far working with her and as everyone says, “she is an institution in herself” holds true.”

With Shyam trying to kill Shashi, since he now knows the former is married, the story has taken an interesting turn. Unknown to Shyam, his threat is more from his own brother-in-law, who has slowly started feeling something for Khushi.In the week that went by, we saw how both these men, proved they can go to any lengths for the woman they love! The pre-cap has promised a hug between Arnav and Khushi. We only hope it doesn't turn out to be a dream and we also pray Babuji shows Shyam's true face to the world!

Navya (Star Plus)

Anant and Navya are now engaged, and they find themselves in a totally new awkward world. They are the same, but the circumstances around them might change. With Navya fasting for Anant, she has already started following the duties of a wife to be. With the marriage process expedited, will all be well in Anant and Navyá's world?

Humse Hai Liife (Channel V)

With the revelation that Sia indeed is the she boxer that Raghav has been wanting to know of, all these days, and a lot tension building up post the mobile phone stealing fiasco, this indeed is an interesting week ahead for Humse Hai Liife. Coach, is brutal, and Sia doesn't get to know why, and the rest of the students around her don't help either. How will Sia cope with the Elite's this week?

Dhoond Legi Manzil Humein (Star One)

StarOne's Dhoond Legi Manzil Hume wrapped up last friday, with Chander returning leaving Alka elated. The show started off as the journey of Alka from not wanting to embrace politics to becoming a leader eventually. Her lover Chander, whom she presumes to be dead until the last episode, also is instrumental in her journey, in making her who she is. With the story wrapping up, we would like to congratulate the entire team for making an effort in attempting something that was totally of a different genre.

The Maha Episode last night, showed Arnav and Khushi lost in a jungle after their car breaks down. While an otherwise harsh Arnav would have left Khushi stranded on the road and walked away, you see him, accompanying her making sure she reaches home safe. The episode ended with Arnav asking Khushi to go quiet for a moment, which she surprisingly does, only for Arnav to later realize she is no where in sight. Arnav clearly has started caring for everything this girl says and does. Is this the start of a new phase for Arnav and Khushi?

Geet-Hui Sabse Parayi 

Maan is injured after saving Geet from a couple of goons who to attack her and loot her off her jewelery. Maan's bangs his head against a tree, and he receives a severe cut on his left arm. Though Geet is concerned for Maan, he is more worried about her safety and well being. After ages the audience witnessed Maan adressing as himself Tumhara Maan ( your Maan) to Geet. Is Maan's memory returning? Before that, the fans have something else that excites them in store. The lovers, finally get to spend some intimate and private moments in a hut, somewhere in a village away from prying eyes. 

Dharampatni

The hustle and bustle of Mohan and Kastur's wedding continues into this week as well. How long before would it be when Mohan would accept Kastur as his wife and love her as well, is what has to be seen.

With a brand new week, and loads of stories to tell, the audience gear up to enjoy their favorite shows.

Balika Vadhu: Fate and its Fatality!!!!

So far, we have seen that inspite of all insecurities, Gouri has finally come to terms with her relationship and marriage with Jagat and they both have started to look forward to their life together. Meanwhile Anandi with the help of her family continues to stand by what she believes is right and creating awareness among the villagers.

Even though Anandi has moved ahead in life, she has not been able to erase the memories of her married life with Jagiya. She still misses Jagiya and a part of her is lonely without him. With Jagiya abandoning her, every dream that she had weaved towards having a future together has shattered.

In the latest episode, we saw that Gouri faints after hearing the truth about Anandi rendering financial help to Jagat. However, the Doctor who comes to check Gouri reveals about her pregnancy.

To Anandi, Jagiya was much more than a husband; he was her childhood friend, her lover, her hope, her pride, her strength, precisely her world revolved around him. Their separation made her incomplete and left her with a hollowness that is not easy to fill in. Nonetheless, her deep rooted desire to save the villagers from exploitation and evil practices in the name of religion and age old rituals, gave her new hope and a reason to live.

Although she has accepted the fact that Jagiya loves Gouri and not her, she has not been able to tear away herself from the 16 years of marital life with him. Anandi loves Jagiya selflessly; she has no expectations from him. It takes a very strong will power and determination to accept such truths in life, and yet maintain the love and respect for that person.

However, destiny seems to be cruel to her repeatedly. It is the irony of life that the disclosure of Gouri’s pregnancy had to happen in Anandi’s presence.

Knowing that the marriage is illegal in the eyes of law; will Gouri still go ahead with her motherhood? Will Jagat’s family eventually accept Gouri as their daughter-in-law? Will Gouri ever understand Anandi and her selfless love for Jagiya? Will Jagiya ever realize the pain he has inflicted on Anandi for the rest of her life?

Words of Wisdom: Anup Soni!

Anup Soni, an alumnus of the National School of Drama (NSD), is not only a prominent face in the Television Industry but is also a very powerful actor, who has carved out a niche for himself.

Anup Soni began his career in Television with serials such as Sea Hawks and Saaya, but the characters that got him the most name and fame were that of ACP Ajatshatru in CID-Special Bureau (Sony) and Raghav Dutt, the favourite teacher of all the Remix fans (Star One). He has also played the character of Suyesh Mehra in Ekta Kapoor’s daily Soap Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, and a cop in the serial Viruddh (Sony).  

He has also worked in movies like Striker, Dus Kahaniya, Apaharan, Gangaajal, Fiza, etc. Lately he has been essaying the role of Bhairav Singh in Balika Vadhu (Colors) and has been anchoring Crime Patrol on Sony Television. He enjoys working in both Films and Television and looks for characters and roles, which challenges him as an Actor.

Did you all that Anup Soni had also been a faculty in the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting School and used to take voice and speech classes? He had students like Apoorva Agnihotri, Priya Gill, Manish Goyal, Akshaye Khanna and Shabad Khan.

So when we met this veteran and talented Actor, who had so much of work and experience behind him, we asked him what would be his “Words of Wisdom” to all those individuals who are new in the entertainment industry or aspiring to be a part of this industry and wants to make a mark for themselves.

Rangmunch Diaries: Snippets from Day Three

A big fat hello to you all! The day was a huge success for us without even stepping into a single set today. We had the honor of meeting one of the most celebrated talents in television industry – Mr. Siddharth Sen Gupta, the director of the longest running show on television today – Balika Vadhu on Colors.

Confident and extremely knowledgeable with 15 years of television experience behind him, Mr. Sen Gupta is a force to reckon with in the television industry. During the free-flowing conversation with him, we had the privilege of becoming privy to some of the most interesting and hitherto unknown aspects of show making, which will be revealed to you all in due course.

We had the opportunity to look at Balika Vadhu through his eyes, which is one of the most enriching experiences for us till date. We also came to know that he holds veteran actress, Surekha Sikri (dadisa of Balika Vadhu) in the highest of regards as she happens to be a university unto herself in acting. According to him, Dadisa is one of the pivotal characters of the show and has been instrumental in its success. His utmost respect for the actress and her talent was evident in the way he spoke about her.
