News Bar: The Week Back and Forth...!

With Diwali celebrations finally ending, Rangmunch.TV brings to you a quick recap of your favourite shows during the week.

Geet Hui Sabse Parayi (Star One): Love can make you win Life’s greatest battles and Geet is one fortunate girl who is blessed with a husband like Maan who not only makes life so blissful but also gives her the strength to face life’s hurdles. However, Maan goes to London for a business deal, leaving behind his Geet with an unsaid promise that he would soon return to be back in her arms. As the new promo suggests the coming of the unknown, we only hope that Maaneet’s love once again withstands this test of time.

Bade Acche Lagte Hai (Sony): Ram unknowingly has started to make way into Priya’s heart with his humble nature and kind gestures. But where there is Ram, Ravan cannot be too far away. So this week we saw a new addition to the Ravan Association, Priya’s ex-boyfriend Ashwin. Whether Siddharth succeeds in using Ashwin to create a rift between Ram and Priya to settle his scores with Priya is something that viewers need to wait and watch!!

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon (Star Plus): While Khushi’s heart continues to say “Dhak Dhak Go” in Arnav’s presence, Arnav’s heart freezed the moment he heard about Khushi’s marriage. Anjali accidentally gifting Khushi the red colour saree for Diwali only goes to show that Destiny is playing its cards well to bond these two lovebirds. What’s needed is Khushi and Arnav realizing that the magnetic force that pulls them to each other is nothing but “Love” and give us audience the most awaited Eureka Moment! The pre-cap might be yet another hit and miss case between Shyaam and Khushi or the writers may pleasantly surprise us. So fingers crossed!

Phulwa (Colors): Never read the book by its cover. Phulwa is deceived by the only Man she dared to trust and love. Least did she know that Shatrugan whom she considered to be her confidante was none other than ACP Abhay and the son of her greatest enemy. Phulwa and her entire gang are devastated by this shocking revelation. However, Phulwa’s lawyer Roshni, has now come in as a “ray of hope.” Will she succeed in restoring Phulwa’s faith in humanity and get her justice is a later story, but for now, it is evident that Roshni is no longer going to allow ACP Abhay to manipulate Phulwa. It was nice to see Rakshanda Khan back on small screen essaying the role of Roshni.

Choti Bahu (Zee): God always makes one pay for his/her sins. While Barkha thinks that, she has eventually cracked the Radhika puzzle and has found out her real identity, least does she know that she is digging her own grave from where there would be no return. It’s really interesting the way “GOD” who is disguised as Radhika, ruins every move of Barkha and instigates her further to react.

Navya (Star Plus): Love ke liye saala kuch bhi karega! Yes this is Anant’s motto in life these days. Anant knowing the financial condition of Navya’s father decides to help him without his knowledge. So he cooks up a plan with Navya wherein he tries to portray irresponsible behaviour before his family and gives them the impression that he probably needs more time to understand the seriousness of marriage and indirectly compel them to postpone their wedding. While Anant and Navya have succeeded in their plans to a large extent, but the Friday’s episode ended at a cliffhanger where the audiences are still guessing if the marriage will happen as planned or will the Vajpayee family fall prey to Anant and Navya’s plan and unknowingly ease the pressure off Navya’s father who has also lost his job.

Kuch Toh Log Kahenge (Sony): While the rain unmasked Dr. Ashutosh, Nidhi was amazed to catch a glimpse of the real Man behind the mask. At that point in time he was no different from her. He too enjoyed the rains, his heart also craved for “adrak wali chai” after getting drenched. Nidhi realized that Dr. Ashutosh is not the man he portrays to be. She informs Dr. Ashutosh about her holiday trip abroad with her father for a month. Is Mr. Sukhani, her father’s partner, scheming against Nidhi’s father by taking his signatures on blank cheques? The pre-cap showed Dr. Ranganath informing Nidhi about Dr. Ashutosh’s illness. Will Nidhi’s heart permit her to leave without meeting Dr. Ashutosh? We hope Dr. Ashutosh reads Nidhi’s “Nainon ki Bhasha” way before Dr. Mallika does.

Hawan (Colors):  To keep the fire burning, one needs to add loads of ghee to it. In Hawan this week, we saw the entry of a new character called Keerat. Keerat is now doing the job of the much-required ghee, trying to create complication in Atharva and Aastha’s life. With the Badi Bahu already trying to mess things up, we now have a fauji who has already started to sow seeds of doubt in Atharva’s mind. The authority with which he announces his arrival leaves all baffled. The coming week will see the unveiling of Keerat’s true colours. Will Atharva manage to save his lady in distress without maligning Baapji’s name? Viewers will just have to wait patiently for Monday to come.

“WHAT THE F*$#%?” : EK KAUWE NE KK KO KHAAYA… !!

A very dear friend of mine who has this rather strange predilection of watching pretty much every Bollywood movie that releases and then bitching about them often asks me the same question – Why the f*$#% did someone invest so many crores into this shit? Interesting question which unfortunately throws up endless related questions of the same ilk…

Paise ko paani ki tarah bahaana is fine but sinking 100 crores into a movie about a geographically challenged ship going from London to India that somehow manages to sink in the Bahamas? Why couldn’t they just shoot one song with Lara in a bikini and be done with it?

And surely only a glutton for punishment would sacrifice 40+ crores in a movie about a widow who takes the idea of loving her spouse to death a tad too seriously - actually 7 times too seriously. (you’d think she’d have learnt her lesson the 3rd time around – masochist)

And what forecast was the dude following, who sank 50 odd crores into a tale of a couple who met, parted, met again, parted again and so on through two more tortuous seasons. One probably needed a totally different MET department just to keep track of their comings and goings. Sheesh! And couldn’t they just take a hint – every time they met and cootchie cooed, catastrophe followed. If any Ms. India’s were serious about world peace they’d just take a gun and pop off this calamitous couple. Or better still maybe they should have just gotten the dude to hook up with the widow from the previous mentioned disaster. (BTW didn’t that happen in real life?)

Anyway point being that producers follow a thought process that’s completely beyond the ken of normal mortals (meaning individuals who possess at least 1gm of common sense). Why they would opt for a 50 crore loss over a 5 crore profit is a mystery that must rank as high as the Bermuda Triangle or the optimism of flop actors who turn producers, cast themselves in the leads and imagine that the same audiences who till now were barfing at the sound of their names would now get super excited and cause maxi riots at the multiplexes. Yes Zayed, Amisha, Sushmita, Lara, Himesh et al, the only reason we never went to watch your movies is cause the produced by credit went to some dimwit loser instead of you…

So while I have no insight as to what is the Eureka moment for these esteemed folks who make it possible for gems like Drona, Tees Maar Khan, Prince – It’s Showtime, etc to inflict themselves on the masses, I have had some absolutely WTF encounters with them that I must share…

The first story is really short – but in terms of WTFness it’s right up there with the likes of Dolly Bindra and Pooja Missra becoming topics of conversation.

I had essentially gone to pitch my kids film to this fledgling production house. But I never got to even doing an elevator pitch cause in the first five minutes the lady I met said something that had my head spinning faster than an Egyptian belly dancer’s navel ring.

She insisted that before I said anything I needed to hear their company’s strategy – one that was radically different from that of every other studio and production house. I was fairly impressed by this, so I shut up and listened. And I suggest you do too cause these are truly golden words…

“We’re only going to make films that make money.”

I nearly fell off my chair. The simplicity of it, the sheer genius – they had stumbled onto something that even Spielberg and Lucas had probably never contemplated. Only making films that made money – what a winning idea!!! And here the rest of the industry in their stupidity and ignorance were only going about making films that lost them money.

Wait a minute – Drona, Tees Maar Khan, Prince – It’s Showtime, Mausam, Blue, Saat Khoon - damn it the woman was right – they were the only production house that was clear that they would only make films that made money. Which could be the reason why till this day (3 years after my life changing meeting with them), they still haven’t made a single film… but that’s not the point.

Anyway coming to my second story. This was with one of the biggies, one of the largest and most prolific studios in the country. And my meeting was with a fairly senior guy and had been arranged by a well known writer and director. Nevertheless having tried to peddle my sub 2 crore price tagged film for over 6 months now with absolutely no success, I wasn’t very optimistic.

However everything changed within the first ten minutes of our chat. It so happened that the previous Friday three films had released – Phoonk, Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam and Mumbai meri Jaan. And as it turned out Phoonk rocked the box office and the other two pretty much died.

This phenomena became the topic of conversation for the first 27 minutes of our meeting. The man with the money found it super amusing that a film that was marketed around a crow had drawn more crowds than KK or Mallika or Paresh.

Ek Kauwe ne KK ko khaaya.”

This was his repeated refrain. I mean he must have said it at least 21 times. And of course he went on and on about how this was a 3 crore film and the others were all close to 9 or 10 and how this was smart film making and marketing and this was how business should be done.

By now I was dancing on the ceiling. If this was how he thought, if this was what gave him the jollies, in another ten minutes I would have my contract and signing amount.

Or so I thought…

When finally we had finished with the Kauwa and its dining habits he asked me about my project. And with full gusto I launched into my narration, prefacing it with how this was a kids film and it would cost less than 2 crores, thinking that I had just played my ace.

That was as far as I’d got. Said head honcho stopped my narration saying – “We don’t want to make small films, 2 crores and all no way!”

WHAT THE F*$#%? What about the Kauwa and KK and…

I do remember wishing as I left that I could summon the same Kauwa and have him feast on this man’s brains. But consider the guy’s statements and thought processes, poor crow would have probably starved…

I’m not going to say which studio it was. But here’s a clue. They produced one of the masterpieces I talked about at the beginning of this piece… J

‘Nuff said.

Balika Vadhu: A Friend or A Foe!

Recently in Balika Vadhu we have seen the entry of a new character by the name Shravan.

Shravan is young, educated, and honest. On Anandi’s request, Vasant agrees to hire Shravan for his godown work as he was in need of a job. In a short span, he has become friends with Anandi even though the villagers are not too happy seeing them together.

Lately we witnessed that Anandi and rest of the family members were shocked to discover that the statue of Devi Ma was missing from their Haveli. Everyone was worried as to who could possibly break into their house and rob the idol.

However, Anandi gets a que from one of her student whose mother unknowingly had found the veil of Devi Ma near a close by riverbank. Anandi, along with that woman and her daughter rushes to the referred spot. Apparently, Shravan who was having a bath in the same river, on hearing about the veil being found there, also helps Anandi in her search mission. He pleasantly surprises Anandi by retrieving the Murti from under water and carries it back home.

While all were happy to get the Statue of Devi Ma back, thanked Shravan for his help, and applauded his honesty, Sumitra on the contrary seem to be worried. Even though she was happy that they found the statue, but she was unable to ignore the fact that someone had robbed it from their house and considered it to be a bad omen.

However, the latest promo suggests that Anandi will soon go missing.

So who can possibly abduct her? Is it a mere coincidence or are these chain of events related? Who is Shravan? Is there more to his character than what meets the eye? In Dadisa’s absence, will his entry in the household turn out to be fatal? Will Shravan be the FRIEND who will bring sunshine in Anandi’s life or turn out to be a FOE who will further push her into darkness?

To see how the story unravels and to get answers to all the above questions, keep watching the forth-coming episodes of Balika Vadhu on Colors.

Sing a song:The untold story

Rangmunch.TV is back with its sing a song segment, where we think of the most apt numbers on lesser talked about Jodi's on Television:

A marriage you never wanted, a husband who you cant relate to and a family where you are stuck with no option. Your heart melts when you see Sandhya of Diya aur Baati Hum's state. When she stood up for her co-sister in law last night, you also realize how much of a mis-fit she is in this family! While we know the two hearts will eventually meet,  and Suraj and Sandhya may become an example to quote the song that aptly describes Sandhya right now reads...

Chan se jo toote koi sapna
Jag Soona soona lagey
Koi rahey na jab apna ...
 Jag Jag soona laagey re....

Akash and Payal of Iss Pyaar Ko Kyaa Naam Doon, are a sweet couple, and the lesser talked about ones on the show. However, their love story is also soon taking shape and their romance where Payal is in denial only because Akash's mother constantly reminds her of her social status. The beautifully shot falling in love scenes between Akash and Payal, take you back to the late nineties and remind you of the Vidhu Vinod Chopra Film Kareeb and the song we think of when we think of this couple is ...

Palke Jhuki,Palke Uthi
Kya Keh diya Kya suna...
Chori Chori jab nazre mili
Chori Chori fir neende udi
Chori Chori dil ne kaha...
Chori main bhi hai maza....

Young and innocent love always appeals to the eyes. It makes an instant place in your heart. Thats perhaps why, when you see Ganga and Saranga, and their love story, you automatically ignore the other harsh realities involved and just want the two to live in their dream world. Set in a pretty dark backdrop, their love story is a recent addition to the star plus show Mann ki Awaaz Pratigya. This story is sure to catch your attention and your heart feels for the lover, and you do silently pray for their well being!

Mil Jaye Naina ek do baras door rehna
Kuch ho gaya toh phir na kehna
Parbat se ghanghor ghataye takraaye toh kya ho?
                                                                       Barsat ho
Tere Dil se mera dil jaaye toh kya ho?
                                                                      Baraat ho
                                                                      Jaane Kab Barsaat Ho
                                                                     Jaane Kab Baraat Ho ...
                                                                    Main Sola Baras ki
                                                                  Tu Satra Baras ka....

When you think of Gaurav and Vidya in Maryada-Lekin Kab tak the first thing that comes to your mind is the pain that love brings in with it. The pain of non-reciprocating love. It shows you the state of helplessness of two souls bound together in marriage, unable to break and unable to take things forward. Things however seem to be changing for the couple lately with the fans of Gaurav and Vidya hoping that a miracle may change Gaurav's feelings towards Vidya. So is that miracle going to ever happen?

wafadaari ki woh rasme
nibhaayenge hum tum kasme
ek bhi saas zindagi ki
jab tak ho apne bas main

 jab koi baat bigad jaaye
 jab koi mushkil padh jaaye
tum dena saath mera oh humnava
na koi hai na koi tha ...
zindagi main tumhare siva ...
tum dena sath mera oh humnava....

We at Rangmunch.TV start our day on that note! Every sub-plot adds up to the main plot, influencing the main story as a whole. The same is the case with all the above couples that have their own story to tell! Do let us know what you thought of this segment! Have a nice day!

The Age old tale of good over evil!!!

Dassera and Diwali, both these festivals symbolizes the victory of “good over evil” and forms an integral part of our Epic story Ramayana. Dassera is celebrated because its believed, on that very day Lord Ram had saved his wife Sita from Ravan’s evil intentions and put an end to his life, while Diwali is to celebrate the return of Lord Ram along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile.

As much as we hate Ravan, I strongly believe that Ramayan would not have been so interesting without him. While Ram and Ravan were equally strong individuals both physically and mentally, but it was Ravan’s wrong deeds and cruel intentions that made us take a notice of Lord Ram’s noble thoughts and deeds and glorified him as a character.

Eva Grover who plays Niharika in BAHL
Similarly, in the fictional world we have characters like Shyaam or Mamiji of Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon, Niharika-ji (Ram’s mother) of Bade Acche Lagte Hai, Raashi of Saathiya, Rama Bhabi of Navya, and many more. In every episode they plan and plot against the Protagonist or the Hero (male or female), they spit venom every time they open their mouth, they dominate over the weak souls and last but not the least, they manipulate situations and circumstances to meet their ends. The only thing that matters to them is their well-being by any means. A trend that was set by the likes of Komolika and Ramola Sikand where, the bad one’s made it their one point agenda to ruin the lives of the good ones, the time of the festivals have always been chosen as a symbolic time to show the win of good over evil !

Whenever these characters come on screen they rile us up. We wish that their evil intentions get exposed and they are punished. But as much as we hate them, we cannot deny the fact that its their evilness that eventually glorifies the goodness of our Protagonist or the Hero.

Abhaas Mehta who plays Shyam in Is Pyaar ko...kya naam doon?
When we see Shyaam’s evil intentions behind his sugar coated words, do we realize how contrastingly good Arnav Singh Raizada is as a person. On the face of it he may be arrogant, impulsive, rude and aggressive towards Khushi but he can never harm her intentionally unlike Shyaam. Similarly when we see Mamiji being rude and bitter towards Khushi and Payal, our eyes start looking for Anjali and our heart yearns for her sweet and comforting words. Had it not been for Mamiji, Anjali’s sweetness would have failed to captivate our attention.

It is these negative characters that create situations and circumstances, which lead our protagonist to emerge as strong individuals and compels us to idealise them. Their manipulative and vindictive nature creates the angst in the story and makes it more interesting. It is because of them that we all want to be like Priya, Khushi or Anjali and dream of a man like Arnav Singh Raizada.

So without the EVIL around, the GOOD would have never got its due credit. Therefore lets thank these characters for giving us our HEROES!!!!
